At the dentist

Friday was my second dentist appointment but the first time he actually did some work and I have to say... where has this dentist been all my life!

What a great experience, didn't hurt at all, I didn't even feel the needle! Now just 3 more visits and then I'll be ready to take the impressions for Invisalign. I can't wait. He told me by the end of everything I'll have a beautiful, sexy smile. I'm so excited =D

To the dentist.... NOT!!

So I finally made a decision on a dentist last week and hesitantly made an appointment. Believe it or not, I've been looking forward to my appointment until I got a call this morning.  "I'm sorry but the doctor is coming down with the flu"....  are you kidding? Now I have to wait one more week.

With all the craziness going on in my life these days, I was excited to get started, isn't that crazy? Who looks forward to a dentist visit, especially a new dentist! But this is something I've been putting off for a long time and I know it's something that will make me very happy. I guess I'll just have to wait.  ::sigh::

Juegos Olimpicos Londres 2012

~Feeling proud, right about...... NOW!!~

Classic Joke...

A boy whale and a girl whale are swimming and feeling bored. The boy whale says "Let's have some fun, why don't we go under that boat and use our blowholes to rock it?". The girl whale says "ok" and they do. - Then the boy whale says "Let's have some more fun, let's rock the boat so hard that we knock the crew overboard!". The girl whale says "ok" and they do.

Then the boy whale says "You know what would be the most fun?... If we ate some of the sailors!!". - The girl whale slaps him hard across the face and says "Look, I agreed to the blowjob but I'm not swallowing any "seamen". :D

Thanks Chuck

9/11... 10th Anniversary

I didn't have the time, energy or inclination to post anything yesterday. So today, September 12, one day after the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center I am writing what's on my mind.

After all these years I'm still in mourning. I feel the pain and the anger just like I felt it on that Tuesday morning and on the days that followed. It's amazing and quite sad that on any given day, I can break into tears when I think of or dare speak of that day; needless to say yesterday was a very difficult day.

I went to the World Trade Center Memorial with Joseph and his family, his mom had been selected as a reader. After the memorial we all went back to Brooklyn and people started to arrive at the house... family members, cousins from out of state, friends, neighbors. Some stayed briefly, others stayed for hours. It was a beautiful gathering, like a celebration filled with joy and love.

As for me, I held it together as I always do although at the same time somewhat removed. Today on the other hand has been especially tough. Back to work, with all these emotions bottled up.

There's not much more I can say right now.

RIP Donald J. Regan. We all miss you...  specially your brother.

Space... the Final frontier

Since the launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis back on July 8th, I've been following Astronaut Ron Garan, aka @Astro_Ron, on twitter. I've also been checking out NASA's multimedia video gallery and their Goddard Pix Flickr page. I just can't seem to ge enough "space" stuff these days.

I can't believe my eyes, I can't contain my joy, I am beside myself watching those videos and pictures of our beautiful blue planet. It is amazing to me that I can be watching a video of the earth taken from the ISS, the knowledge that I am on that earth down below, kind of "watching my selft" from above. Does that make sence? I guess the best way I can describe my feelings is... it's like an outter body experience. How could I "be" in two places at the same time? I've said it before and I'll say it again... I love the age I'm living in.

I feel I must express my gratitude to the thousands who over the years decades have made a generation's dreams of fanstic voyages possible. And now I am looking forward to what will be next... There's talk of perhaps going back to the Moon (but I don't think it likely). There's the Webb Space Telescope, human's travel to Mars or asteroids, what other dreams are waiting to become reality? Only time will tell...

Father and Son: STS-1 and STS-135

Via Flickr:
The picture we waited 30 years to complete. (hi reddit!)

This father and son team share this picture, the title says it all. They attended the first Space Shuttle launch in April 1980, and this month attended the last launch for the Shuttle program (aka, the end of an era). It's a great composition. This is not only a nice shot, but one of those pics that evokes emotion and even reflection when you look at it.

It makes me think of my relationship with my dad. How I look at him many times and think about the passage of time. I think of him when he was my age and I was a kid and how my definition of "him" has changed over the years. - Now at 43, I see my boyfriend's daughter getting ready for prom, graduating high school and soon starting college, and I think of my dad when I was Katie's age. I understand so much now....

It also reminds me of that bond that dad and I have always shared over photography. I suppose that since I was very little I wanted to be just like my dad. And I modeled my hobbies, interests, views, so many thinks after him. And photography was always one of those fun, challanging, "anything you can do, I can do better" things between us. I'm sure that at some point came a time when one of my "shots" made him realize the inevitable.... that now his daughter has aquired enough knowledge and experience that she has outdone him (although he would never admit it). Perhaps he has felt the way I feel now. Maybe he has looked at me and seen himself 30 years ago and also wondered about the passage of time.

I look at my dad and I see my past, my heritage, my future.... I wonder what he sees when he looks at me.

hey soul sister.... ain't that Mr. Mister...

I am soooo loving this song, I can't get it out of my mind, so here it is. Enjoy.

The Korean clock lady

One of my friends posted this on YouTube and I couldn't resist, I have to share it. While it is hilarious I must give fair warning... It is an audio clip from the Howard Stern show, got it? Ready to laugh.... ::click::

Step aside Whole Foods & Trader Joe's 

So I was checking up on tweeter and came across this link. It's a video for a new grocery store (chain?) opening in Austin, Texas this year. It is called in.gredients and their idea is to sell everything sans packaging. That's right, since Bring Your Own Bag has done so well, the new thing is going to be Bring Your Own Container. I love it!

That's how grocery shopping was done when I was little (maybe not entirely, but almost). I really hope they do well in TX and eventually come to NY. I know I would be more than happy to do my part in reducing packaging waste. As far as I'm concerned, I always want to do my part to keep my earth healthy. 

Same-sex Marriage bill approved tonight 

Finally, NY state became the 6th state in the Union to approve a same-sex marriage bill. It was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo just before midnight and it will go into full effect in 30 days.

As a New Yorker, I am so proud of this huge step forward that the senate took tonight. I've been following this closely for a while now and have been waiting all week for the bill to go to the floor for vote. And tonight, when I got a news alert that it would, I got very excited and frantically searched every news outlet on my iPhone for live coverage. Once I got home turned to NY1 and watched the last 4 senators speak their vote.

Once the bill was officially passed by a vote of 33-29, I was so excited!! I really felt like celebrating. Although I am not gay, this vote means a lot to me. As a human being, as a woman and as an immigrant, I believe in every one's right to be equal. As a New Yorker, I believe in tolerance and acceptance; I have the hope that NY State will continue to be a leader in raising social consciousness and bringing change to our country.

My wish tonight is for presidential support in the same-sex marriage issue and as an American, I hope that one day we and generations to come will look back and know that this was the right, the logical, the only way to go. Much like today we look back at the civil rights movement or women's lib.

And wouldn't you know it.... this is Gay Pride week. How perfect. 

The pain...

I attended a zumba class at my gym thee days ago and loved it! What a great workout and I loved moving to the music. However, I was left with incredible knee and some hip pain. I iced my knees that night and by morning they were as good as new. But my hip pain remained and has been getting a little worse each day. Now it's so bad that I couldn't sleep last night and today I almost can't walk. Even just lying down is painful. I just hope I didn't do any damage. Ohhhh, the pain...

I feel pretty, oh so pretty... 

I just love getting compliments from strangers. I've been asked what fragrance I'm wearing 3 times this month, and today I was told "how beautiful you look today" by one of the not so friendly ladies on my block.

I must admit, I am feeling beautiful these days. Losing those dreaded 20 lbs was an incredible boost to my confidence. And since I've been exercising and going to my belly dance class I have seen a change in my body. For the first time in my life I have a waist! I really feel beautiful.

Why must the critters come out?

We've been having some crazy hot days in NY lately and yesterday it rained like nobody's business. So of course when I came home today, I found a little surprise in my shower... a nasty waterbug. I swear, I hate bugs but spiders, waterbugs and millipedes totally freak me out.

I had to deal with the nasty mutant bug by myself and by the time I was done I was exhausted. I think my blood pressure was thru the roof. I tell you, handling bugs is definitely a man's job.

Endoscopy's done

I just woke up from my endoscopy, it was quick, just 15 minutes and I was asleep the whole time. I was very nervous before the procedure but dr. Arco the anesthesiologist was so nice, he really put me at ease when he told me he was there to tale care of me.

Now I just have to wait for the meds to wear off and then I get to go home and the waiting game begins again. Hopefully the results won't show anything bad; my fear is my mom's history of stomach cancer.
