So today, September 12, one day after the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center I am writing what's on my mind.

After all these years I'm still in mourning. I feel the pain and the anger just like I felt it on that Tuesday morning and on the days that followed. It's amazing and quite sad that on any given day, I can break into tears when I think of or dare speak of that day; needless to say yesterday was a very difficult day.

I went to the World Trade Center Memorial with Joseph and his family, his mom had been selected as a reader. After the memorial we all went back to Brooklyn and people started to arrive at the house... family members, cousins from out of state, friends, neighbors. Some stayed briefly, others stayed for hours. It was a beautiful gathering, like a celebration filled with joy and love.

As for me, I held it together as I always do although at the same time somewhat removed. Today on the other hand has been especially tough. Back to work, with all these emotions bottled up.

There's not much more I can say right now.

RIP Donald J. Regan. We all miss you... specially your brother.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v12.nonxt4.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D304a9b609b2136f6%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331827954%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D347BD0D384813CDDBAF73E25FCE38728E62B10E8.321A5585B9146D2CEE8F1BEC438644159C9AEB5A%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D304a9b609b2136f6%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3Dx5D56knKa3RTn0EuT-xcXZwf_sk&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Space... the Final frontier

Since the launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis back on July 8th, I've been following Astronaut Ron Garan, aka @Astro_Ron, on twitter. I've also been checking out NASA's multimedia video gallery and their Goddard Pix Flickr page. I just can't seem to ge enough "space" stuff these days.

I can't believe my eyes, I can't contain my joy, I am beside myself watching those videos and pictures of our beautiful blue planet. It is amazing to me that I can be watching a video of the earth taken from the ISS, the knowledge that I am on that earth down below, kind of "watching my selft" from above. Does that make sence? I guess the best way I can describe my feelings is... it's like an outter body experience. How could I "be" in two places at the same time? I've said it before and I'll say it again... I love the age I'm living in.

I feel I must express my gratitude to the thousands who over the <strike>years</strike> decades have made a generation's dreams of fanstic voyages possible. And now I am looking forward to what will be next... There's talk of perhaps going back to the Moon (but I don't think it likely). There's the Webb Space Telescope, human's travel to Mars or asteroids, what other dreams are waiting to become reality? (hi reddit!)

This father and son team share this picture, the title says it all. They attended the first Space Shuttle launch in April 1980, and this month attended the last launch for the Shuttle program (aka, the end of an era). It's a great composition. This is not only a nice shot, but one of those pics that evokes emotion and even reflection when you look at it.

It makes me think of my relationship with my dad. How I look at him many times and think about the passage of time. I think of him when he was my age and I was a kid and how my definition of "him" has changed over the years. - Now at 43, I see my boyfriend's daughter getting ready for prom, graduating high school and soon starting college, and I think of my dad when I was Katie's age. I understand so much now....

It also reminds me of that bond that dad and I have always shared over photography. I suppose that since I was very little I wanted to be just like my dad. And I modeled my hobbies, interests, views, so many thinks after him. And photography was always one of those fun, challanging, "anything you can do, I can do better" things between us. I'm sure that at some point came a time when one of my "shots" made him realize the inevitable.... that now his daughter has aquired enough knowledge and experience that she has outdone him (although he would never admit it). Perhaps he has felt the way I feel now. Maybe he has looked at me and seen himself 30 years ago and also wondered about the passage of time.

I look at my dad and I see my past, my heritage, my future.... It's a video for a new grocery store (chain?) opening in Austin, Texas this year. It is called in.gredients and their idea is to sell everything sans packaging. That's right, since Bring Your Own Bag has done so well, the new thing is going to be Bring Your Own Container. I love it!
That's how grocery shopping was done when I was little (maybe not entirely, but almost). I really hope they do well in TX and eventually come to NY. I know I would be more than happy to do my part in reducing packaging waste. It was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo just before midnight and it will go into full effect in 30 days.
As a New Yorker, I am so proud of this huge step forward that the senate took tonight. I've been following this closely for a while now and have been waiting all week for the bill to go to the floor for vote. And tonight, when I got a news alert that it would, I got very excited and frantically searched every news outlet on my iPhone for live coverage. Once I got home turned to NY1 and watched the last 4 senators speak their vote.
Once the bill was officially passed by a vote of 33-29, I was so excited!! I really felt like celebrating. Although I am not gay, this vote means a lot to me. As a human being, as a woman and as an immigrant, I believe in every one's right to be equal. As a New Yorker, I believe in tolerance and acceptance; I have the hope that NY State will continue to be a leader in raising social consciousness and bringing change to our country.
My wish tonight is for presidential support in the same-sex marriage issue and as an American, I hope that one day we and generations to come will look back and know that this was the right, the logical, the only way to go. Much like today we look back at the civil rights movement or women's lib.
And wouldn't you know it.... this is Gay Pride week. How perfect. 
Sent from my iPhone

The pain...

I attended a zumba class at my gym thee days ago and loved it! Hopefully the results won't show anything bad; my fear is my mom's history of stomach cancer.
Sent from my iPhone

It's been so long...

Wow, I can't even remember the last time I was here.
Quick update: lots of doctor appointments the last few months; everything from GP, to gastroenterologist, eye ear throat, Gyn and soon fertility. All if a sudden this year I feel like my body is falling apart at the seams and sometimes I feel I can't cope with it. I've always enjoyed good health but now I feel sick constantly and the doctors can't find anything wrong with me.
And wouldn't you know it, now that I decided it's time to start a family, it looks like I can't do it on my own. Feels like my body's giving up on me. These days it's so hard to stay positive and find something to be happy about. And to add to my worries money is tight, as usual. And worrying about $ can really mess up a lot of things... I can't wait for this year to be over and hopefully 2011 will be better. At least I hope so.

Sent from my iPhone

Comic Colbert fills the seats at House hearing

I love Strphen Colbert's humor;this from WABC news in NY:

Comic Colbert fills the seats at House hearing

- view video -
Stephen Colbert testifies on Capitol Hill
Updated on: 2010-09-24 18:04:55
Story posted 2010.09.24 at 06:04 PM EDT

Taking his blowhard comedy act to Congress, Stephen Colbert told lawmakers that a day picking beans alongside illegal immigrants convinced him that farm work is "really, really hard."

"It turns out - and I did not know this - most soil is at ground level," Colbert testified Friday. Also, "It was hotter than I like to be."

Still, Colbert expressed befuddlement that more Americans aren't clamoring to "begin an exciting career" in the fields and instead are leaving the low-paid work to illegal immigrants.

Staying in character as a Comedy Central news commentator, Colbert offered a House hearing his "vast" knowledge, drawn from spending a single day on a New York farm as a guest of the United Farm Workers.

The union launched its "Take Our Jobs" campaign to back up its claim that few Americans would do the work of farm laborers, the vast majority of whom are in the U.S. illegally. Only seven people accepted the jobs, the union said.

Colbert pleaded with lawmakers to do something about the farm labor issue because "I am not going back out there."

A House bill that creates a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants has been filed and another is being drafted in the Senate but Congress is due to recess soon to focus on fall elections. The bills, or pieces of them, could come up in a lame-duck session after the November balloting.

As the immigration subcommittee hearing began, House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers praised Colbert for drawing a roomful of onlookers and photographers. Then he asked the comedian to leave the room - and to leave the job of testifying to the expert witnesses, including Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez.

"You run your show, we run the committee," said Conyers, D-Mich.

There was some grumbling from lawmakers about Colbert testifying in character. It's not unusual for actors to appear at hearings, but they're normally speaking as themselves. Congress has heard testimony from the Sesame Street puppet Elmo, however.

Colbert said he was there at the invitation of subcommittee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif. And Conyers later gave him the go-ahead, apparently hoping Colbert's performance would counter the testimony of a political science professor who said illegal immigrants were competing with black and Hispanic citizens for jobs.

Colbert wiped his brow and launched into his mock right-wing schtick, demanding that lawmakers do something about the agriculture industry's dependence on immigrant labor.

"I'm not a fan of the government doing anything," Colbert insisted. "But I've got to ask, Why isn't the government doing anything?"

Colbert's humor drew guffaws from the audience and several Democrats on the subcommittee. But most of the Republicans sat stone-faced.

"Maybe we should be spending less time watching Comedy Central and more time considering all the real jobs that are out there," said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

At the close of the hearing, Colbert dropped his TV persona and turned serious, saying he was using his celebrity to bring attention to farm labor because "these seem to be the least of my brothers."

"Right now migrant workers suffer and have no rights," Colbert said.

---
Online: TakeOurJobs.org , ColbertNation.com
Story posted 2010.09.24 at 06:04 PM EDT

All material © 2010 WABC-TV, Inc. & 2004-2010 LSN, Inc. I also want to go party a little, I'm looking forward to a couple of nights of dancing and fun!! woohooo!!

I have to get some shopping done and lose a few pounds before vacation. It was a wonderful experience to be alone with him in the car driving through my beautiful country, talking about anything and everything. While in one of our conversations I made some statements about the internal struggle I have lived all my life; as a Colombian immigrant child who grew up missing her home, her family, her culture and so much more in a strange land, and at the same time having grown a New Yorker full of energy and passion for all that is American (and now global). I don't belong neither here nor there, I don't feel complete in either place. His reply was "ustedes viven en el despecho". I broke into tears, for he was so right.

And so I sit here today, surfing the net and listening to Colombian music. Until a song plays that hits me in the heart and transports me to my childhood and memories of my family and life as it was, and I break into tears.

I wish there was some way I could change things, find fulfillment. But as I imagine many or perhaps any immigrant can understand, this is the high price we pay for wanting more. For wanting something better. Sometimes I wonder if it's all worth it.

Atlantic City, here I come!!

That's right! And my answer was: not really, I work long hours and I'm a homebody anyway. The days of clubbing and late nights were over a long time ago, isn't that sad? But honestly, I just don't have the energy for it anymore.
As it turns out, he is also single, also works long hours and doesn't date much. Hmmm... I don't really want to think too much about it, because J. Is still trying to hang around, making the same promesses he's made many times before. It wouldn't be fair to any of us for me to even try dating this guy right now. Too bad, because he's really cute and he has a job!
Sent from my iPhone

It's 2009

Already, 2009. I'm hoping this year I will post more often than in the past, but I can't promise anything. Let's start with a recap of January:

I've been poking around in Facebook a lot.

I connected with a cousin I haven't seen since childhood, although I get updates on her life from an aunt.

I started looking into leaving New York and moving to Phoenix. It's time to leave and start something new; hopefully something better.

I'm looking for a new job. I'm not happy in the company where I work, and I'm in desperate need for a change.

I've continued my French lessons and I am enjoying them very much. I feel I'm learning a lot and those 20-30 minutes I spend listening to the podcasts give me a break from the things that worry me and keep me stressed.

My lovelife has taken a turn for the worse; I don't think there's fixing it this time ::sigh::

I guess that's what's going on in a nutshell. As usual, not a whole lot but then again, my job doesn't allow me a whole lot of time for myself. But that's going to change.

Comment ca va?

Ca va bien.

How's that for my first attempt at writing in French? That's right, I am taking French lessons... I never thought I would do this. I found some podcasts which are quite fun and easy to follow and so I am trying to learn a new language. A fourth language.... wow, I feel so smart! :) The only drawback is that since they are podcasts, I am only listening to the lessons. They offer a Premium Membership which includes visuals, so you can see the vocabulary, phrases and so on, but ofcourse you have to pay for this and right now that doesn't fit in the budget. But hey, training the ear and learning the pronunciation is hard enough for now. It's a start.

Merci, Coffee Break French et Radio Lingua Network. We came back to New York in May, and so many things have happened since then. The most exciting thing of all is that I finally went back home. After 11 years I went home and spent two weeks in Colombia. It was great seeing my family after such a long time, and it was great just being there. It's an entirely different world, some things better, some not.

I got to eat some great foods, many of which I hadn't eaten in 27 years.... can you even beging to understand what it feels like to experience something that has only lived in your memory for more than half your life? I also got to travel a bit, and see how beautiful my home is. Landscapes that lived in my memory came to life again, and overwhelmed me. I took so many pictures, I don't get tired of looking at them and I want to share them with everyone and anyone who will give me half a chance.

Now I can't wait to plan my next trip, which God willing will be next year. That's right, I want to go back soon, real soon; I miss my family and I miss my home. They say you can't go home again, and it's true. But you can't blame me for trying.

We're back in NYC

Well, we arrived last Tuesday and we're staying at my friend Emile's for a little while. I'm sad to leave this beautiful island, our fabulous apartment, friends and "my beach".
I'm dreading the humid New York summers and icy cold winers. I'm dreading the subways, the filth and the rush and stress of the big city. I'm not looking forward to the "New York minute". But that's where work is, for me and for Joseph; he's only going to do one more trip on the cruises and then he'll be home full time again.
The time has come... I want to get out of the city in the next couple of years. I probably won't come back to Puerto Rico, but well definitelly look for a more peaceful, calmer place to live.
Good Bye Puerto Rico... Joseph will be coming home on Saturday.... only 2 ½ days to go. We're both very excited, especially since this was his last tour away from home. Now, since we're going back to NY (oh, yeah... we decided to move back) he'll be able to stay home with me and get local work.

I can't say I'm entirely happy about going back to NY; I really grew to love it here and really feel my quality of life is better here. Unfortunately, going back to NY is the better thing for us right now. But Joseph keeps telling me that we'll come back, and we still want to buy a home here. I'm just not sure it will be easy to come back once we leave.

I can tell you one thing, I didn't shed a tear leaving NY a year and a half ago. But I've already been crying at the thought of leaving San Juan. This is going to be very hard for me, but I've accepted it and just have to get through it. At least I know I have a couple of good friends in Puerto Rico who I can keep in touch with and come back to visit.

Earth Hour

I just heard about Earth Hour in CNN. I remember when Sydney, Australia turned off their lights last year and I thought... what an incredible thing to do. Well, apparently this year several cities around the world are participating. Today!

It's things like this that give me hope; I'm not alone, there are thousands, millions of people who care and who want to do something about our environment. I will deffinitely turn off my lights and relax by candlelight possibly downstairs by the beach or maybe in my balcony. FYI, Earth Hour tonight between 8-9pm.

Do your part.

Coastal Flood Warning

There is a winter storm system over the Northwest Atlantic which is affecting the north part of the island, and is putting a damper on Easter week vacations.

This from my WeatherBug and the National Weather Service: "This coastal flooding is the greatest non-tropical cyclone related swell event experienced in the local area since the Perfect storm of 1991." We are experiencing 12 feet swells, coastal flooding, breaking waves between 15-25 feet, there is a high surf warning in effect thru Friday, possibly to be extended over the weekend. In other words, it's not pretty. This picture is of the building grounds leading out to the beach. As you can see, the sea weed and sand were thrown easily 50+ feet into the grounds as the tides have come and gone.

Here's to everyone back at home in NY who tells me how jealous they are of me... living by the beach, enjoying the sun and surf. It is great most of the year, and then you have weeks when you think the ocean is just going to swallow the island. Get this, usually I have about 40+ feet of beach right outside the building grounds, now watch the video.

<object width="320" height="266" class="BLOG_video_class" And by the way, why would I not want to do my own shopping? To me that is such a stress relieving and comforting experience.

7. Be spiderman or be superman? I'm stumped. Both.

8. Be stuck in the 70's or be stuck in the 80's? I lived the 80's and they were pretty wacked, but the 70's are not my cup of tea. Deffinitely the 80's..... love that music!!

Till next time....

Back to NY?

I don't want to go back to NY yet, but there is a chance I may have to. What?

Have you heard about the Amero, do you know what it is? When did this happen, where was I that I didn't hear about it? It's scary to think that the Dollar might seize to be, and in replacement we might have a "unifying" currency for the three North American Countries.... or shall I go ahead and call them the North American Union.

What is going on? Now after all the years of fear and controlled immigration we are moving towards a borderless Union? What, now all of a sudden all those "illegals" who supposedly come to "steal" our jobs are going to be our partners and we'll all be one big happy family? Who the hell is pulling these strings? First, they brainwash the American public to hate immigrants, specifically any immigration related to the Mexican borders; now, they are going to brainwash you again to have this lovy-dovy openness with Mexico, including our borders and commerce. What is going on?

And a North American Union is being formed by the three presidents...... ummm, without our approval or that of congress? What, now Bush is going to decide that we are not US citizens anymore and this new "country", sorry, Union is the way to go? I should go ahead and call it by its proper name: The Security and Prosperity Partnership. Sounds really nice, doesn't it? Well, if you ask me George Bush has done nothing but compromise our Security and Prosperity from day 1.

But what do I know, I'm just a citizen.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://myweekly.blogspot.com/2007/08/spp-and-amero-what.html' title='SPP and The Amero.... Bummer. I just hope that the rain will be over by Friday, since I'm taking Friday and Saturday off. I'm so excited to have two consecutive days off! I think we may go to the rainforest on Saturday with Heath... that will be fun (eventhough it will be my 5th or 6th trip up the mountain).

I have to remember to call Emile on Saturday to wish her a happy birthday. I also have to make time to call Louis; he called me last week and I still haven't called him back, yickes!

Sunrise

I just found this picture I took of a sunrise a couple of weeks ago... just beautiful.

Post Family Visit

Wow, what a week...

Joseph came back from Hawaii (finally...), two days later my dad arrived, two days after that my brother and niece came in from Phoenix and three days later Josephs two kids flew down from NY. I just love her.

Now, everyone's been gone for a couple of weeks already (except for Joseph); the apartment's quiet again, and we're already thinking about a trip up to NY in June and bringing my family back to Christmas. Being from NYC, I don't consider Walmart as one of my "shopping" options (especially when looking for clothes). Ofcourse there are malls here, but I've never been a mall rat. I loved having my choice of boutiques and chain stores, both low and high end. But here, there aren't many choices. It's either Gap, Old Navy, etc, or teeny-bopper type stores where everything is cheaply made and way too small.

Not surprisingly though, is the fact that women here wear their clothes way too tight and rather sloppy. And to make things worse, since more than 65% of the population is overweight.... let's just say it's not a pretty sight. Even women who are well dressed, walk around with their pants so tight up their croth you wonder how can they be comfortable? And their tops are always tight, cut way too low at the neck line or too short at the waist.

I need to go shopping........ can I go to NY for the day and come home with bags full of clothes? Please....

Here I am again

Wow, I can't beleive it's been 3 months since I've posted. But I have good reason; work is crazy busy, many times stressful and the little time I have to call my own, I spend in front of the tv to escape the fact that I'm alone.

These past few months have been very tough. Joseph's in Hawaii working and although we talk several times a day and leave eachother messages, I miss him terribly and am starting to feel lonely. I know it's just as hard for him so as always I try to be very positive and comforting.

Today was a particularly bad day. I went crazy cleaning the entire apartment, and as is my routine, I played music super loud to keep me going. The only problem was that since I've been feeling homesick, listening to all that Colombian music just depressed me more. I practically spent the day with Lysol in one hand and Kleenex in the other.... hmmm, sounds funny now that I think about it.

Enough with the sadness; I do have good news. Emile and Matthew are coming to visit next week. Yey! Emile's arriving Wednesday night and leaving Monday afternoon, I am soooo looking forward to her visit. She's so energetic and funny, I know she'll have me feeling better in no time. And ofcourse I'll have someone to go out with, thank God!

Matthew is suppossed to call me sometime next week to let me know when he'll be arriving, which might be next weekend. I'm glad he's coming, he's a nice guy and he'll get me cought up with what's going on at home in Brooklyn. I don't know if he's coming alone (he might be bringing someone along). Imagine.... alone for the past couple of months and now in one week I may have 3 guests.

Ain't life a pisser.

Bienvenidos a Puerto Rico

Welcome to P.R.

That's right, we moved and are now living in San Juan. Amazing how things change. We've been down here for a month and we are loving it. We got an amazing condominium (oceanview and everything), and couldn't be happier.

And yes, this is our pool. We spend one to two hours a day at the pool and Joseph sometimes goes to the beach. I love our beach but I prefer the pool; I say "our" beach, because it's private. It's never crowded. In fact the most people I've seen at our beach was probably last Sunday when there were maybe 15-20 people there. How's that for crowded? Sure beats Jones Beach.

The Deal is Done

Well, the last phonecall was done on Tuesday, and tomorrow it comes in writing... I'm relocating to Puerto Rico.

I have mixed feelings about the move. Ofcourse I'm so happy about my promotion and the new challange, but I'm also a little nervous about what's to come. All the new responsabilities and closer relationship with the home office make me nervous and excite me at the same time. In fact, last night I cought myself thinking about what could or will be my next step after DM. I chuckled at the thought... I didn't even take over my new Region yet, and I'm already thinking about my next promotion.

My life is going to change drasticly, moving from NYC to Puerto Rico. I feel very proud and lucky to have achieved what I have in just one year.

That's all for now.... time to rest so I can be up early and have a full day with my dad.

I'm back

Happy New Year!!

I don't have much leisure time these days, and so I haven't posted in a while.... for now, here's my update: work is going great, right now I'm working towards my free Mexican vacation, courtesy of my company. Things with Joseph are the same as always, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. I started going to the gym again this month, and almost fainted when I weighed myself. 135lbs. That's the heaviest I've ever been; and I know that's not exactly fat, but for my body and compared to my constant 120lbs in the past 5 years, 15lbs is a lot. Now I'm sweating to lose them.

I'll try to keep up with the posts whenever possible. Fourth quarter is here, and I am so busy at work that I'm not even eating. I know that's a very bad thing, and I'm trying to control it, but I'm moving from the moment I get there and it's non-stop all day.

Ofcourse, as long as the store is busy and we're making lots of sales I'm happy. Especially since the company will send me to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in February as long as I make the fourth quarter goal. That's all I'm keeping my mind on..... hummm Mexico, here I come!

I just want to be sitting on a beach, having a drink and soaking in the sun. I got a chance last night to get cought up with what's going on and was appalled at what I saw. What strikes me most is, how can our government not react immediately. How can they let days go and expose thousands of people to such horrible conditions?

I read a transcript of a radio interview with Mayor Nagin and wondered again, what is Bush doing to this country? Why is our government letting us down yet again? When I asked Joseph yesterday why did it take so long for the national guard to get there, his answer was "she didn't ask for it. And don't say it's Bush's fault. It's the law, he can't do anything until the governor asks for it". Well, it seems to me that there are times when we need to assess a situation and take action. Like Mayor Nagin said in his interview "Well, did the tsunami victims request? Did it go through a formal process to request? You know, did the Iraqi people request that we go in there? Did they ask us to go in there? What is more important?"

Apparently not American lives.

I have a Birthday Coming Up

And I'd like to do something to celebrate. I can't complain, it was a good week: Joseph and I got to spend four days together without phone calls from the restaurant or my store. We drove up to the Catskills, which is probably my favorite vacation spot. I am a nature girl and being in the mountains always makes me happy. Check out the pictures here.

We stayed in a town called Andes, and visited a few others like Margretville, Delhi, Walton, New Paltz and Cooperstown. Ofcourse we went to the Baseball Hall of Fame and I had a blast looking up all my favorite Mets players; I especially got a kick out of the World Series Rings. The most entertaining part was watching Abbott and Costello's "who's on first".

The only dissappointing part of our vacation was the Esopus Creek. Apparently there hasn't been much rain upstate this summer, so the creek is quite low and we couldn't go tubing. ::grrr:: We were told that all water activities have suffered including fishing. And the fisheries are not doing so well either. But aside from that, we had a blast. I am a bottled water drinker simply because it's practical... living in NY and always on the move. However I do drink from the tap when I'm at home. Mostly because Ihave always heard that NYC water is one of the best in the country. But check this out:

Bottled water is undeniably more fashionable and portable than tap water. The practice of carrying a small bottle, pioneered by supermodels, has become commonplace. But despite its association with purity and cleanliness, bottled water is bad for the environment. It is shipped at vast expense from one part of the world to another, is then kept refrigerated before sale, and causes huge numbers of plastic bottles to go into landfills.
Of course, tap water is not so abundant in the developing world. And that is ultimately why I find the illogical enthusiasm for bottled water not simply peculiar, but distasteful. For those of us in the developed world, safe water is now so abundant that we can afford to shun the tap water under our noses, and drink bottled water instead: our choice of water has become a lifestyle option. For many people in the developing world, however, access to water remains a matter of life or death.

Read the whole article, it's really interesting.

Via boingboing

What a beautiful Baby

I was going through old pictures and I found this one. The bump on my head is nearly gone but it still hurts and is tender to the touch; my chin is also tender but the worse today is my jaw joint by my ear. The only good thing about this is that I went to the ER and they said the cat-scans didn't show any fractures or problems from my neck up. The bad thing is that three of my fingers are still numb and I don't know why? What really sucks is that my health insurance at work doesn't start for another week (or two, I'm not sure). I have to wait two weeks to go see my doctor. In the meantime I have to figure out how I'm going to take care of the ER bills when they start coming. ::yikes::

Why do I have to be in pain and risk permanent injury... oh yes, because we don't have adecquate health care in this country ::humm:: Thank you Mr. Bush for spending my money in all the right places. ::@$^*#@$%^&*#@&&^%@::

My aching head

So I fainted at work yesterday... yes, out cold. Apparently I fell on my face because I got a half dollar size bump on my forehead, bruised the bridge of my nose, my lips, and my chin. I am a mess. That doesn't mean that my face is all black and blue (thank God), but I am in pain and got a couple of small scratches here and there. And ofcourse I refused to go to the Emergency Room, but now I regret it. Everything above my shoulders hurts today. Even the joints of my jaw.

Now I'll have to spend the day at my doctor's tomorrow getting checked and tested. ::yuck::

Independance

Today we celebrate Colombia's Independance Day. I miss my home, but I don't think I could live there again. I guess what I really miss is my family, my city as I remember it in my childhood, my school- which I still have dreams about. That's right, once again I'll be making time to get in shape and feel better about myself. I love going to the gym and working out, it totally energyzes me and motivates me. Plus I love the way I look after a while.

The only thing is that at this moment I am immobile. That's right: i m m o b i l e . I took a body toning class on Thursday night, but the instructor focused only on legs and a little bit on abs. After I left the gym I was in so much pain, I considered calling my boss and telling him I couldn't come to work the next morning. But I didn't do that, instead I went to work yesterday and was miserable not being able to walk or move comfortably all day. We had the whole morning to watch a little tv, have breakfast and relax. Then we were going to Katie's basketball game at 2pm and after that to the movies (I was hoping to see "The Passion of Christ"). Then in the evening, a little Oscar, and some home cooking.

Yeah, that was the plan. Out of all that going to Katie's game was the only thing that worked out; except we were 1/2 hour late. The being late part was my fault because after breakfast I decided to do some house cleaning and took a phonecall from a co-worker, which left me rushing to get ready.

After the game, we went to Joseph's house to pick up the two complimentary tickets he had for us to go to the movies, and we found out one of his nephews had already taken them. No movies for us..... on top of that, we found out his mother fell and hurt her back.... ouch.

From there we decided to make our way back to my place at around 4pm. Suffice it to say, we walked in the door at my place at 8pm. Yes, what normally takes one hour, took us 4 tonight. Not only that, the conductor on the last train we were on was giving the wrong directions for shuttle bus transfers for the stations coming to my neighborhood. Crowds of people got off at Queens plaza expecting to catch the shuttle bus to the Astoria train, but there was no shuttle. The busses were waiting at a different station..... MTA screws up once again.

But we're finally home..... Home Sweet Home.

Some day off.

Is it spring yet?

I'm looking forward to spring already. I was very stressed. They're just so different; I love Joseph, but they're so different from us, from my family.... I couldn't wait to leave. Afterwards we went to my dad's and we had lots of fun, until Joseph and Juan started on the second bottle and it all went to hell. Joseph got drunk and I felt like I wanted to run out of the house. And on that note, we have the Pre-Holliday "party" this Saturday. The good thing is I surpassed my pre-sale goal by 50% *woohoo*, the bad thing is I'm still 2k short to make my month's goal. Yikes!

Then on Sunday we're having our "employee" party. Louis is taking us to Bowlorama after work which should be fun.
